Kanotix LXDE turned out to be a great way to install Debian on my Lenovo B50-45 laptop.

This is an el cheapo laptop, boring pc but with a lightweight OS quite ok for work as it is light and totally quiet.

But it needs all cpu resources it can get for normal work and I don't really use Compiz functions. So is it ok to remove Compiz? Will the system function without it?

yes, you can do and remove compiz

another choice is to create the file
Code:
~/.nocompiz

then compiz is disabled.

nocompiz is also supported as bootoption for live-iso.

Thanks.

Will try that. Now I set up Windowmaker and there Compiz does not start, so that's an option too.
